Service Clubs
Kiwanis International developed the concept of Service Clubs to develop leadership skills and a desire for community service in schools and youth organizations. Builder's Clubs were developed for youth at the middle school level. Key Clubs were developed for the high school level. Members of both Builder's Clubs and Key Clubs are provided with training to develop the member's leadership skills. The training is woven around school and community service projects so that members will graduate with an increased appreciation of local service. The Kingsport Kiwanis Club sponsors both Builder's Clubs and Key Clubs.
A critical part of a successful Service Club is the organization sponsor. In schools, a teacher is typically the sponsor of the club, with Kiwanis being the institutional sponsor. An active Service Club carries out service projects within their school or community. The Clubs also conduct fund-raising projects to pay for the expenses associated with their service work. For example, a Key Club might decide to buy books and clothing for a student whose home has been damaged by a fire. To pay for this service project, the Club might hold a car wash or collect aluminum cans for recycling. If your school or youth organization does not have a Kiwanis sponsored Service Club and you would like more information, you can contact us by email to kingsportkiwanis@gmail.com.
